Weldassistant vs WPS Welding.
Weldassistant is downloadable WPS and welder certificate software from hsk welding solutions in Germany. Its center of gravity is ISO and EN work, with ASME and AWS included. WPS Welding is a web app built around AWS D1.1:2025. Here is where each one is the better fit.
§ 01
The short answer.
- Choose Weldassistant if your work is mostly ISO 15614, ISO 9606 or EN 1090, you want a one-time licence instead of a subscription, or you want a free edition to keep using indefinitely.
- Choose WPS Welding if your work is AWS D1.1 structural steel, you want welder continuity tracking and lapse alerts, or you want PQR, WPQ and NDE records in a browser without installing anything.

§ 03
Where Weldassistant is better.
- ISO and EN coverage. Weldassistant covers ISO 15614 style WPQRs, ISO 9606-1 and ISO 14732 certificates, and the EN 1090, EN 15085 and ISO 3834 world. WPS Welding has none of that. For a European or ISO shop it is the obvious pick.
- One-time licence. You pay once (from €590 net for BASIC) with no monthly fee, and maintenance is optional. Over several years that can cost far less than a subscription.
- Free edition with no time limit. The STARTER edition is free to keep. WPS Welding also has a free account, but Weldassistant’s free edition is installed software you can keep using with no subscription.
- Joint sketch library and cost calculation. It advertises over 3,000 joint sketches and a welding cost calculator. WPS Welding has a parametric joint sketch but no cost calculation.
§ 04
Where WPS Welding is better.
- Built around AWS D1.1:2025. Our rule engine encodes the D1.1:2025 essential variable tables (6.6 and 6.8) and the prequalification limits behind Tables 5.6, 5.11 and 7.7. Weldassistant’s public pages name AWS D1.1 mainly for welder certificates, and we could not confirm from them how deeply it checks D1.1 WPSs.
- Welder continuity. WPS Welding tracks the six month continuity window per welder and process and lists who lapses next. Weldassistant does not mention continuity tracking.
- NDE reports and audit packet. Pro includes RT, UT, MT, PT, VT and ET reports and a ZIP of every current WPS, PQR, WPQ and NDE record. Weldassistant lists NDT personnel admin, not NDE reports.
- No install. It runs in a browser, so the QC manager, CWI and shop office see the same records without copying files between PCs.
§ 05
When WPS Welding is the wrong choice.
If you weld to ISO or EN standards, need welding cost calculation, or want to pay once and own the licence, Weldassistant fits better.
WPS Welding covers AWS D1.1:2025, ASME Section IX and AWS D1.6. It does not cover AWS D1.2, D1.5, API 1104, ISO 15614 or CSA W47.1 today, and it has no SSO or multi-organization workspaces yet. It is a new product without a long customer track record.
§ 06
