The agreement
These Terms govern your use of wps-welding. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
What wps-welding is
wps-welding is software that helps Certified Welding Inspectors, welding engineers, and QC managers draft Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ), and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) reports under AWS D1.1, AWS D1.6, ASME BPV Section IX, and related codes. The Service includes:
- AI-drafted narrative grounded in retrieved code content;
- a deterministic rule engine that validates essential variables against the cited code edition;
- parametric joint sketches generated from your inputs;
- audit-ready PDF export for every document type, including bulk audit-packet ZIP export.
Co-pilot, not autonomous
The Service is a co-pilot. AI drafts narrative; deterministic rules validate code values; a qualified human (CWI / SCWI / PE / engineer of record) must review and sign every document before use in production.We do not represent that any AI-drafted text is correct, complete, or fit for any particular purpose. The signing party is responsible for the document's accuracy and conformance.
The deterministic rule engine encodes our reading of the cited code edition (AWS D1.1:2025 Tables 6.6 + 6.8, ASME IX QW-251 cells, etc.). We make reasonable effort to keep encoded rules current with the code committees' published interpretations. You agree to cross-check rule results against the governing edition your AHJ or contract specifies.
Use of AI, and its limits
This Service uses artificial intelligence, including third-party large language models, to generate narrative text, summaries, suggested values, and search results. Your inputs and prompts are transmitted to and processed by third-party AI providers for this purpose.
AI can make mistakes. AI output is probabilistic, not deterministic, and is not a calculation, a certification, or an engineering opinion. Without limitation, AI-generated content may:
- state a code clause, table, paragraph, or edition number that is wrong, superseded, or does not exist (commonly called a hallucination);
- misstate an essential or supplementary essential variable, a qualified range, a preheat or interpass value, a PWHT requirement, an amperage, voltage, or travel-speed range, or a filler-metal or base-metal classification;
- omit a requirement that your governing code, contract, or Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) imposes;
- produce text that reads as authoritative while being incomplete, internally inconsistent, or inapplicable to your joint, thickness, position, or process;
- return different output for the same input on a different run.
The deterministic rule engine is a separate layer and is not AI, but it reflects our encoding of a specific published code edition and may itself contain errors, gaps, or lag behind an amendment, erratum, or committee interpretation.
No output of this Service is engineering advice, legal advice, a certification, an inspection, or a professional opinion, and nothing in it creates an engineer-client or inspector-client relationship. The Service does not replace a Certified Welding Inspector, a welding engineer, a licensed Professional Engineer, an engineer of record, a qualified testing laboratory, or the judgement of your AHJ. Welding is safety-critical work: documents produced with this Service govern welds in structures, pressure equipment, and components where failure can cause injury, death, or property loss.
You must independently verify every output against the governing edition of the applicable code and your contract documents before qualifying a procedure, qualifying a welder, releasing a document to production, or submitting anything to an AHJ, owner, or auditor. Every document must be reviewed and signed by a qualified human, as described above. You agree not to rely on AI output as the sole basis for any welding, qualification, acceptance, or safety decision.
The Service does not make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. A human decides, signs, and accepts responsibility in every case.
We give no warranty, express or implied, that any AI output is accurate, complete, current, code-compliant, or fit for any particular purpose, and all AI output is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. If you find an error, please tell us at legal@wpswelding.com. We review reports but do not commit to any accuracy rate.
Your data, your responsibility
- You retain ownership of every input you provide and every document you generate.
- You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your data for the purpose of operating the Service.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of inputs and the code-compliance of documents you sign.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer the Service or scrape the code corpus;
- Use the Service to produce welding procedures for any unlawful purpose;
- Resell, sublicense, or otherwise commercially redistribute the Service or any export of its corpus without written permission;
- Submit content that infringes intellectual-property rights of others (note: AWS D1.1, AWS D1.6, ASME, and API codes are copyrighted standards; do not upload code-body content);
- Attempt to access another organization's data, or otherwise circumvent our access controls.
Plans, trials, and billing
We offer a 14-day Pro trial without credit card. After the trial you choose a plan or downgrade to read-only access. Plans are billed monthly or annually via Stripe. You can cancel any time through the billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not pro-rate refunds for partial months outside the 14-day money-back window described below.
14-day money-back guarantee.If you pay for a plan and email us within 14 days of your first charge saying you'd like a refund, we'll process it, no questions asked.
Service availability
We target 99.9% uptime on paid plans. We do not currently provide SLA credits on Starter or Pro plans. Shop plan customers can contract for a written SLA. We will give reasonable notice of scheduled maintenance via in-app notifications or email.
Code edition + rule updates
We track AWS D1.1, AWS D1.6, ASME IX, and other supported code editions. When a new edition is published, we update the rule engine within a reasonable window (typically 60–120 days). You can choose which edition your WPSs reference; older editions remain supported as long as they are accepted by your AHJ.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for:
- consequential, incidental, indirect, or punitive damages, including loss of contracts, profit, or production;
- damages arising from welds produced under documents you signed, regardless of whether AI drafted any portion of those documents (the signing party retains full responsibility per “Co-pilot, not autonomous” above);
- losses arising from your use of the Service in violation of these Terms, your governing code, or the AHJ's instructions;
- any error, omission, inaccuracy, or hallucination in AI-generated output, or any loss, injury, rework, rejection, delay, penalty, or liability arising from reliance on it, given the verification and human-signature obligations set out in “Use of AI, and its limits” and “Co-pilot, not autonomous” above.
The Service, including all AI output, is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Termination
You can terminate at any time. We can terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that are unable to pay for material breach. On termination, you can export your data via the audit packet for 30 days; afterward we may delete it permanently.
Disputes
These Terms are governed by Delaware law. Disputes will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association in Wilmington, Delaware, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court to protect intellectual property.
Changes to these Terms
We will email account owners about material changes at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
